Pictureplane – “Riot Porn” Premiered via Stereogum

A few days ago, Sept. 17th to be exact the exclusive premiere of Riot Porn via Stereogum, the music blog which allowed us the first listen to Pictureplane's newest variation. How the artists' underplayed enthusiasm extended over social media as another track became a tease, as it was thrown to the vote in a status posted via the Pictureplane page on facebook. A track titled "ESOTERRORIST". Although we didn't get a listen to that one, I most definitely hope to see it on the final release date. Travis Egedy's upcoming album will be the first album to be released in four years, this highly anticipated album is called Technomancer.

"...That’s almost as great as naming a genre Witch House, which I still maintain is one of the best subgenres ever coined, even if it contains some of the worst music. " - Caitlin White, Follow

Riot Porns' "Swirl" has since  been described as "Noise House", but does mean it is not itself, Witch House? Being produced entirely in-house Travis has truly solidified, this formula. Proof is the results you hear that within the track, rhythm carrying many core sounding elements - more like staples Pictureplanes from some of his greater songs. In this moment an invocation of this familiar point in time, almost as if the listener can be brought back to one of the very first times they heard Black Nails.

The warm familiar fuzz is reminiscent of his album "Dark Rift", (originally released in '2009'). It may be a little less abstract, rather Travis Egedy has grown more familiar with Pictureplane & Pictureplane has grown more familiar with Travis Egedy. If that spray-paints the picture better for you. Its making a lot of sense how, ever since we received 'Hyper Real' (a highly advanced audible brought to life in a hyper coloured visible) - with no slime warnings, they just gave it to - Watch here. A big part of Pictureplanes music was (and has for the most part always) focused on the spectrum of "Feeling or Being Real". Ironically - but not, by transcending the older House and Hip-Hop club music era's in the late 80's and later 90's to 2000's, more so now into the current one pretty seamlessly.

Back in 2012, a few local artists in Columbus Pictureplane played a show at a communal living space -slash- gallery for performance arts, called SkyLab. First time I was able to see the artist perform live. Having these DIY spaces allow such a unique experience when you have the opportunity to perceive music, performance, and art with your own direction, having artists who support them are most certainly commendable as well. Technomancer is out 10/30 on Anticon.
